The next speaker in the winter programme of Carnegie Lectures is Lord Charles Bruce presenting 'Serious Minds: Andrew Carnegie and his Trustees'.
Charles Bruce pursues interests in conservation, multiculturalism, the Fine Arts, and Scottish heritage overseas. He manages a family estate in Fife as a sustainable rural business centred on Broomhall House, now a leading international destination for heritage and Fine Arts travel. He is a past chairman of the Patrons of the National Galleries of Scotland and was awarded the Paolozzi Medal for fundraising in 2010. He is a graduate of the universities of St Andrews and Dundee.
Lord Bruce is president of the London-based Democracy Forum which focusses on political accountability and the negation of human rights in several countries in Asia and the Middle East including Iran, China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. He is involved in urban regeneration in India where he chairs the Kolkata Scottish Heritage Trust, conserving a 200 year-old Scottish cemetery. He is on the advisory council of the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) - based in Osaka - and has lectured widely on the history of Scottish relations with Japan. He is a member of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and participates in the annual Scottish North American Leadership Conference. He was presented with the Wallace Award by the American Scottish Foundation in 2022.
