The Carnegie Lectures Series will share familiar and new stories and interpretations of Andrew Carnegie. Speakers inspired by his works and values will offer the audience new insights to this local man who from humble beginnings impacted the world.
Our first presentation of the 2022 Carnegie Lectures is local Carnegie enthusiast Sharron McColl on "The Life of Andrew Carnegie.”
Sharron will talk about Carnegie's life, in the museum hall built by his wife to celebrate and remember his impact.
Sharron has worked in the Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries for the last 30 years. She has an interest in Andrew Carnegie and could not believe that she has the privilege to work in his first funded library of the world. She is currently researching his funded libraries by Andrew Carnegie in the UK from 1881 to 1919. There were 147 in Scotland, and she only has two more to find!
She has her ideal job as the Local Studies Supervisor in the Library which as she said is more like a hobby than a job. Her hobbies include swimming, cross stich and public speaking. She is a member of the Dunfermline Speakers Club and successfully won the Club, Area and Scottish Final of the Association of Speaker Clubs contests this year held in Stirling and went on to represent Scotland in the National Finals held in Lytham St Anne in April.
She is a Trustee of the Jane Austen Society and a founder member of the Scottish Branch.
